Metamucil Drug Interactions
Psyllium fiber, which is found in Metamucil, can interact with other drugs and medications by reducing the amount that is absorbed.
A fiber supplement can decrease this absorption by lowering the amount of drug is in the body by creating more stools, decreasing time of transit, and trapping minerals in the stool, which later leave the body. This can essentially render the other medication useless, as it is being passed out of the body through the stool. Therefore, it is important to consult with your physician before taking Metamucil while taking other medications.
