Hydrochlorothiazide Drug Interactions

by on June 14, 2012

Medications or supplements with similar side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) may intensify these symptoms when the drugs are taken together. Let your doctor know if you are taking any medications that could cause dizziness or lightheadedness, such as muscle relaxers, anxiety medications, and drugs to treat allergies. There are other medications that are known to have adverse, sometimes serious, interactions with HCTZ, including:

  • Lithium
  • NSAIDs including Celebrex, Advil, aspirin, Aleve, Motrin, Naprosyn, etc.
  • Lanoxin
  • Steroids like prednisone
  • Oral medications for diabetes such as insulin
  • Prevalite, Questran, Colestid, etc.
  • Other medications prescribed to lower blood pressure

There may be other drugs that interact adversely with HCTZ so be sure to tell your doctor about all medications, vitamins, and dietary supplements you are taking.
