What is Verapamil?
Verapamil is a type of medication called a calcium channel blocker. It works by slowing the rate of calcium entering the heart and relaxing muscles, allowing for better blood flow and stopping the heart from working as hard.
Verapamil also serves to enhance blood and oxygen supply to the heart and manages the heart rate by slowing electrical activity in the heart. For this reason, Verapamil, also known as Calan, Covera, Isoptin and Verelan, is used effectively to treat high blood pressure as well as to control chest pain known as angina.
