What Is Nasonex?
The brand name of a nasal spray containing the generic drug mometasone, Nasonex is a corticosteroid that is inhaled through the nasal passages to reduce swelling and inflammation of the membranes in the nose. It is available by prescription only, in a spray solution and is typically used once per day. The medication is sprayed once or twice into each nostril and should not be used more often than directed. Many people do not see an improvement in their symptoms until up to 2 weeks after starting treatment with Nasonex.
Nasonex Uses
Most often, Nasonex is prescribed to reduce the nasal symptoms that accompany seasonal allergies. It is also taken by individuals who suffer from year round allergies, such as dust or pet dander. When used to treat the symptoms of hay fever, it is best to start taking Nasonex at least 2 weeks before allergy season begins. This gives the medication enough time to become effective.
Nasonex reduces the symptoms of sneezing, congestion, and a runny, itchy nose. Mometasone may also be used to treat asthma and is prescribed for skin disorders such as eczema in its topical form.
