Seasonique Drug Interactions
Seasonique may react with other prescription medications and over-the-counter products, creating unintended consequences for the user. To avoid potentially dangerous drug interactions, tell your doctor about any and all medications you are taking before starting a Seasonique regimen. It is especially important to mention the following medications, which have been found to negatively interact with Seasonique:
- Soriatane (acitretin)
- Agenerase (amprenavir)
- Targretin (bexarotene)
- Victrelis (boceprevir)
- Tracleer (bosentan)
- Cyklokapron or Lysteda (tranexamic acid)
- Dantrium (dantrolene)
- Tegison (etretinate)
- Lexiva (fosamprenavir)
- Panhematin (hemin)
- Incivek or Incivo (telaprevir)
- Zanaflex (tizanidine)
- Arimidex (anastrazole)
- Aromasin (exemestane)
- Evista (raloxifene)
- Sotradecol (sodium tetradecyl sulfate)
- Soltamox (tamoxifen)
Some drugs and products decrease the effectiveness of Seasonique and should only be used under a doctor’s supervision, or avoided altogether for the duration of your treatment to prevent unintended consequences, such as pregnancy. These include:
- Fulvicin (griseofulvin)
- Provigil (modafinil)
- Rifidin or Rimactane (rifampin)
- Carbatrol, Epitol, Equetro or Tegretol (carbamazepine)
- Felbatol (felbamate)
- Di-Phen, Dilantin or Phenytek (phenytoin)
- Mysoline (primidone)
- Topamax or Topiragen (topiramate)
- Viracept (nelfinavir)
- Viramune (nevirapine)
- Norvir (ritonavir)
- St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum)
- Barbiturates
- Antibiotics such as amoxicillin (Augmentin), ampicillin (Omnipen), Doxycycline, minocycline (Minocin), rifampin (Rifadin), tetracycline, and others
Conversely, there are also some drugs and products that may increase the amount of Seasonique medication in the blood, putting patients at risk for overdose. These include:
- Tylenol (acetaminophen)
- Lipitor (atorvastatin)
- Sporanox (itraconazole)
- Feoris or Nizoral (ketoconazole)
- Miconazole nitrate vaginal cream
